  • Someone Is Always Watching

    August 19, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

Jeff, a young man preparing to go to college, is new in his faith in Christ. Before heading off to school, Jeff went on an FCA mission/work trip to New Orleans with his former high school’s Huddle. The trip included many of Jeff’s friends and former teammates, but the most significant person on the trip to Jeff was his younger brother, Dan. And everyone was curious to see how Jeff would live out his new faith in front of his brother.

  • Sometimes It Rains

    November 06, 2009

    devotional
    Set:
Have you ever heard the phrase, "God didn't promise you it would be easy?" Boy, I have thought about that a lot lately. Tough days at work, at church, with family health issues, and the list keeps going and going. When will it stop I wonder? I know God is there, and I know He hears me when I pray, but wow. Some days it just rains and pours.

Have you ever been there? Where do we go when that happens? What do we do? Let's find out.

    Sooner or Later

In 2005 Francie Ekwerekwu was a three-sport star at Arlington High School in Texas. She was a homegrown talent with a passion for track and some All-District hardware that displayed her volleyball and basketball skills as well. It took much prayerful consideration, but the 5'11" honor student decided to accept a volleyball scholarship to the University of Oklahoma—the equivalent of a Montague turning Capulet.

Why? According to Ekwerekwu, the reason was simple.

    Set:

In 2001, golfer Annika Sorenstam dominated the women’s professional tour, winning eight tournaments and topping two million dollars in earnings. After that phenomenal year, Annika’s chief rival, Karrie Webb, commented that she’d eat her hat if Annika won eight tournaments in the coming year. The following season, Annika won eleven tournaments and earned nearly three million dollars in prize money.

  • Sorts and Mingle

    November 16, 2009

    icebreaker

An icebreaker that gets the group to move towards various parts of the room and to find others with shared interests and preferences, based on various interesting categories.

The first part of the game is the "Sorts" game.  You will throw out two contrasting choices and the group has to move either East or West of the room (e.g. "Do you prefer Target or Walmart?").  Then you throw out two more choices and have them move South and North.  That way, they are all having to move somewhere and can't get "lost" in the crowd.  Sorts that work well include:  movie or book; salty or sweet; dress up or casual; inside or outside; be on the stage performing or in the audience watching, etc.

  • Soul Food

    January 05, 2012

    devotional
    Set:

We all know that we need to eat well so our bodies will perform well on the field of competition. But how many of us know what feeds our souls? What keeps one’s soul from starvation and keeps it running? Jesus knew about “soul food.”

  • Souled Out

    devotional
    Set:
In the world of Oklahoma Sooner athletics, Laura Tomes became a household name this past volleyball season. That was easy to understand considering the fact that, as the middle blocker, she led the OU to its best seasons in nine years, was a critical player in the school's first defeat of the University of Texas Longhorns, and helped her team to the Sweet 16 for only the second time in school history. Tomes played with a lot of heart on the court and easily found herself playing the role of the fan favorite.
