  • Selfless - Chapel

    October 23, 2007

    bible_study

1 – Introduction – today we’ll talk about being selfless.   That’s the direct opposite of being selfish or having a “Me First” attitude.  Selfless people seek the best for others, before themselves.

    2 – Read the text – Romans 12:3-5

  • Senior Day - Chapel

    October 25, 2007

1 – This could be the last competition for some of our senior players.

    • Many of us have competed together for years.
    • On a day like this, what should characterize the attitudes of our most senior players?
    • I see a great model at Joshua 14 and verses 7-14.

    2 – Joshua 14:7-14 (read the text)

    • Caleb is now 85 years old, but he’s not ready to retire.
      • “I was faithful to what I was told.”
      • “I’m as strong today as I was 45 years ago.”
      • “Give me this mountain!  I’ve heard there are giants there.”

    3 – I wonder about our seniors.

  • Servant Leadership - Chapel

    October 21, 2007

    bible_study

1 – Today’s competition will require a tremendous amount of leadership for us to be victorious.  It will require a unique type of leadership.

2 – This kind of leadership is best described in Mark 10:42-45 (read the text aloud).

  • Serve Like Christ

    March 01, 2014

    devotional
    Set:

Growing up in Buffalo, New York, hockey was my sport. I started skating pretty early in life, and it quickly became my dream to play in college and then in the NHL. As seasons went by, I scored more goals and had more assists, and I started getting recognized for my ability to play the game I loved. In high school, I played on multiple teams, winning two national championships and a gold medal at the Empire State games. My senior year, I captained my team to a perfect 40-win season, which resulted in the National Junior B Championship.

As I look back on those years, I find myself asking, “Was I the leader that my teammates and coaches deserved? Was I following the example that Jesus Christ had provided for me when He was leading His team of disciples here on earth?

How Can I Experience Eternal Life?

    READY

Time is always a major factor. We live in a world of 60-minute games, 30-second time-outs, 3-second lane violations, 2-minute warnings, and other time crunchers like having 2 outs and 2 strikes in the bottom of the 9th inning.

    1. Describe a situation when time played a role in the outcome of a competition. What adjustments were you or your team forced to make as the clock ran down?

    2. List three emotions that you’ve felt when under pressure. What impact did those emotions have on your ability to perform?

  • Session 3: Missing the Mark

    August 03, 2010

    bible_study

How Does God Forgive Me? How Can I Forgive?

    READY

Imagine that the game or match is on the line and your number is called. You make the free throw or you don’t. You make the penalty kick or you don’t. You make the hole big enough so the four yards can be gained or you don’t. You make a birdie or you don’t. If you succeed, you win; if you miss, you lose. You either become the hero or the “goat.“

    1. Describe a time when you dropped the ball, fell short, or really messed up when everybody was counting on you. What did it feel like to be the “goat”? What broke down?

    2. Why do you think we feel so bad when we fail or miss the mark?

How Do I Walk In The Power Of The Spirit?

    READY

As athletes, many factors play into our success on the court or field of competition. Fitness, nutrition, rest, proper attitude, and mental focus are just some of the less visible factors that determine how we’ll perform. Even though these things are not as visible as skills training or weight training, they play a vital role in being game ready.
