Timing is Everything
Ready:
"But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons."
-Galatians 4:4-5
Set:
In sports a significant part of individual or team success depends on timing. The running of a screen play in football requires timing--the quarterback must draw the rushers toward himself, the pass must be timed so that the receiver catches it and waits for the pulling linemen to lead with blocks. In basketball the setting of a screen and the use of a screen requires teamwork, timing and discipline. Waiting for the screen to be set and for the ball to be in position before cutting can be the difference between an open shot and the defense's recovering.
It's easy to see how critical timing is in athletics. In life, it's just as important. And how great is it to have it all worked out for us by our Lord. You see, God's timing is always right. For example, He knew that our world needed a Savior and exactly when to deliver it. God sent his Son at the right time, at a time in history when the world was in desperate need and when the political and economic conditions were conducive for the spread of this good news. The people of the Old Testament had waited 74 generations for the fulfillment of this promise. God kept His promise and at the perfect moment sent His Son to be born of a woman.
The mystery of the virgin's womb and the empty tomb are facts of history that demonstrate God's impeccable timing. Waiting at the stop light, waiting in line for your food order and waiting for healing or recovery from injury can be frustrating, but we should not get frustrated in waiting on God. It is no waste of time. His time is always the right time, and we can live free of worry and anxiety if we rest in knowing that we can trust that to be true!
Go:
1. What have been some times that you have had to wait on something or someone this past week? What was your reaction or response?
2. Name some times in your life in which God's timing was evident.
3. How can we wait for God's return, yet be a part of executing the play (His plan) today?

Jeremiah 29:11

Overtime:
"Lord, forgive me for times when I have been impatient in waiting for the unveiling and fulfillment of Your plan. I praise You for the best gift anyone could receive: forgiveness of sins and life eternal with You. As I wait, please fill me with hope, purpose and patience. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."
