Back in 2006, the FCA staff in Florida suggested we do a story in STV magazine about the University of Florida Huddle President, Lee Humphrey. Lee was a starter on the Gators' basketball team, and apparently was just an all-around outstanding example of Christ. At the time we received the article idea, however, we were already finished with our college basketball stories for the spring and were unable to do the article.
I'll admit, I was a little disappointed when the Gators won the championship last spring. I questioned God a little about why He hadn't given me a head's up about Humphrey sooner so that we could put him in the magazine and share his story. He had been given a huge platform as an NCAA Champion, and I know those times of fame are fleeting. It's important to maximize those times to bring God the most glory.
Then came 2007. Florida looked good again at the beginning of the season, and Humphrey was still there (a senior now), so we scheduled him as the cover of the March issue. Always having to work in advance, we wrapped up production on the issue at the beginning of February, and waited to see what the Lord would do.
Well, that ultimate plan all came together last night as the Gators captured their second consecutive NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, defeating Ohio State 84-75. Now, not only was Humphrey a champion, he had back-to-back titles. And had gained an amazing reputation along the way. The platform of 2006 was nothing compared to what Humphrey has now. He will be able to proclaim the glory of God during another season of success, and will now have an even larger voice. God knew it all along.
What about you? What are you questioning God about today? Does something just not add up to you, or not make sense? Trust God. He sees the whole picture, and He has a plan. He may not reveal it to you right away, but trust that He will bring about His will in His perfect timing.
Go:
1. Do you find it hard to trust God? Why?
2. What issues do you need to address in your life in order to learn that He is trustworthy?
3. What situations do you need to trust Him with today?
