Ready:
"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me."

-1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV)

Set:
Every day we impact the people around us. Others see our actions and hear our words, and that causes them to form opinions regarding who we are. We do that same thing with the professional athletes we watch. The athlete who makes a scene with his temper is perceived differently than the player who is conscientious of his actions and keeps a level head.

But because of the world we live in, professional athletes also are followed away from the game. The media watches their every move and tells us immediately if they make a mistake.

As Christians, we are all asked to grow and present ourselves in a way that is favorable in God's eyes. On and off of the court, we are placed in situations where we can either speak and act as the word of God directs, or we can act as the world would act. As Christian athletes, we must remember that there is a power at work within us. God knows not only our words and actions, but also the meditations of our hearts. This standard is far higher than the media or the opinions of men. For me, knowing that God is with always with me provides great inspiration to practice hard, play hard and give honor to Him. Life is easier knowing that He is with me and that I am playing for His glory.

Go:
1. Think of your favorite professional athlete. Why do you respect that athlete? Do they have a positive impact on and off the field?
2. What kind of impact are you making on those around you?

3. What do you need to change?
