"All a man’s ways seem right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the motives. Commit your activities to the Lord and your plans will be achieved." -Proverbs 16:3
“Commitment” is a big buzz word in sports today. Coaches are asking for commitment, players want to be committed, and schools are looking for a four-year commitment. But commitment is a word that is used very loosely today. (I personally believe that we need more athletes who are committed to their academic success before their athletic careers, but I’m old school on that one.)
When it comes to commitment, Jesus Christ wants us to be committed as well. He desires our commitment. When is the last time you said, “Lord, I am committing this to You!”
In the verse above from Proverbs, we read that if we commit our work to the Lord, our plans will succeed. Now, that does not mean we will win, but that we will be successful. When we walk with the Lord, we are guaranteed ultimate victory with Him in the end.
Committing everything to the Lord is a moment-by-moment adventure, not just a “once and done.” Everything we do, everything we are and everything about us needs to be completely committed to Christ. You might say that sounds like a lot to ask, but it is the only way that we can be totally committed to Christ. Anything less just doesn’t add up.
Are you struggling with commitment in life? If so, first commit all that you are to Christ and then go from there. Once you are fully committed to Him, things will work out in the end.
1. How committed are you?
2. In terms of percentage, how committed are you to Christ?
3. How can you start being committed to Christ with all that you are?
Psalm 37:4-6; 1 Peter 4:19; Revelation 3:15-16
Lord, today I commit to You. Help me to integrate this commitment into every part of my life so that I will be successful. Please bring friends into my life who can help keep me accountable as I live out my commitment to You. Amen.
