Ready:

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”
-2 Corinthians 2:14-17

Set:

It was 5:56 in the morning, and I was barely awake. I knew this was going to be a challenge, but I couldn't remember the last time I woke up this early consistently. Maybe four years ago in college? See, for quite some time, I've been a slacker, a poser. I'd get up to head to work, and if I had time I'd cram down some Bible verses, toss up a few prayers and start the routine to the office.

But as I spent time with God this particular morning, I found that He had a lot to say. And I'm glad I got up so early because I would have missed out. As I read His Word, meditated and prayed, I felt God asking me one simple question, "What do you smell like?" And no, Old Spice had nothing to do with it. He was asking me if I smelled like His Son, Jesus Christ. I humbly, with my tail between my legs, said to my Father, "Nope, not me."

According to the Bible, we are to spread the "fragrance of the knowledge of [Jesus]" in what we say, do, act, think and in how we live. In our self-discipline, our family, our school, our team, our office, we are to be that "aroma of Christ" and strive for Christ-like qualities. Some people might not like the smell; others might notice it to be inherently different. Regardless, we are to carry on the knowledge of Jesus Christ to those around us.

For me, that began with starting my day with consistent, intentional time with God. For you it might be something different. But as you read this, you probably already know that one thing you need to do; so do it. Do whatever it takes to give off that sweet aroma of our Savior.

Go:

1. What is one area in your life you need to change in order for you to “smell” like Christ?
2. If you want change, do something about it! What will you actually do?
3. Do you have someone who can keep you accountable?
