Ready:

So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. — Galatians 6:9

Set:

While growing up playing many types of sports, with a variety of coaches, there were many chants cheered. However, one that sticks out in my mind is “Go, Go, Get ’em, Get ’em, Fight, Fight, Win!” This cheer was a common saying from my high school basketball coach. We would break every huddle with our hands held high saying this simple, yet meaningful, chant. These words would help us persevere throughout the entire game.

It was not until I became a coach that this saying began to mean more to me than just giving my best at each game. I remember in college reading Galatians 6:9 as I was wrapping up my student teaching. I heard the chant again, but this time it was God saying, “Go, Go, Get ’em, Get ’em, Fight, Fight, Win for Me!” He was asking me to go into the world, use my talents as a teacher and coach, and bring people into His kingdom. That verse reminds me that I need to keep persevering in my own life because God promises that I will reap a harvest. It may take time. When times get tough, I need to listen to the Word of God telling me to “Go” out into the world, “Get ’em”—tell them about Christ, and “Fight” until the very end…and we will “Win.”

We must never give up praying for and demonstrating Christ for our players. “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few” (Lk 10:2). Will you go into the harvest until it is reaped?

Go:

1. In what areas of your life do you feel tired and want to give up?
2. Take a look at the areas in your life that you listed above. What steps can you take to change them into opportunities for the Lord?
3. How can you “Go Get ’em” as coach on the field?

Extra Reading: Matthew 11:25–30; John 4:34–38; Ephesians 2:10

Overtime:

Lord, I pray that You will give me strength to keep fighting until the very end. I pray for guidance to continue using the talents You have blessed me with to glorify You. Lord, thank You for Your promises. I love You. Amen.
