“'I know the plans I have for you'—this is the LORD’s declaration—'plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'” — Jeremiah 29:11
As a young and inexperienced basketball coach, I was a little worried about my practices and if they would be effective. My mentor encouraged me to always make a practice plan and stick to it. My first attempts at planning were disorganized and often resulted in my practices looking more like a fire drill than a basketball practice. This complete chaos led to a junior high team that did not have a prayer of winning. After much trial and error, I have finally learned what it takes to make my practices both efficient and organized and what it takes to make my teams successful. This applies to our lives as well.
I thank God we don’t have to go through life with a disorganized practice plan. God has known us and what paths we would travel since we were in our mother’s womb. He has given us a divine guidebook for our lives in His Word. If we will simply ask Him, He will direct our steps. If we are willing to listen and to seek His will for our lives, we don’t have to run around in chaos; instead, He will lead and we will succeed.
1. Do you know God’s plan for your life? For the life of your team?
2. Are you seeking His will in every aspect of your life?
3. As a coach, can your players see God’s hand directing your path—and ultimately theirs?
4. How can you share your life plan and the changes you have made with the athletes under your care?

Lord, I pray that You will show me Your plan for my life and correct my steps if I stray. Hold my feet to the path You have chosen for me. Help me, as a coach, to allow my players to see You directing my steps both on and off the court. Keep me strong in my desire to seek Your will first in all areas of my life. Thank you for loving me. Amen.
