Ready:

“Wait for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait for the LORD.” - Psalm 27:14

Set:

Weight training is a must for athletes in order to prepare their bodies for practice and competition. The benefits of weight training and conditioning are increased muscle size, increased strength and the power to maximize their abilities. Weight training also reduces the number and severity of injuries. It overloads the muscles and breaks down muscle fibers. The muscle then recovers, becoming bigger and stronger.

Spiritually we need to be involved in similar activities that strengthen our hearts and souls and protect us from the assaults of the enemy. This can be described not as weight training, but as "wait " training. Instead of lifting weights for strength, we must use obedience and patience with God as our method of building our spiritual strength. This can be accomplished through prayer, fellowship, church attendance, worship and reading the Bible.

We live in a society of drive-thru's, fast food, instant cereal and even instant muscles (steroids). But Psalm 46:10 tells to be still and know He is God. We need to be still and patient and wait upon the Lord, and then listen and obey Him.

Just as weight training and conditioning will help an athlete perform more effectively, patience in the Lord will help us grow as Christians. We need to make sure that we are obedient and waiting upon the Lord, seeking His direction and counsel for our daily lives. Remember, there are no shortcuts to eternity, God isn't in a hurry!
