Ready:

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. - Hebrews 12:28-29

Set:

As coaches we want players who are “on fire” for our team. We want players who “live” our sport and don’t just “play” from time to time. As athletes we should want to excel to the highest level possible. We should not be satisfied with less than our total “sold out” effort. That is exactly what God wants from us.

Look at the verses above. The author of Hebrews tells how to reach that “sold out” level. We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken. No matter what happens in our lives, as children of God and believers in Jesus, the kingdom cannot be shaken. How hard would we compete if we believed with all our being that the outcome would be the biggest victory in the history of sports and we would be on the winning team?

That is what God promises us. “Our God is a consuming fire.” This power is in each of us as believers. There is a big difference between a flickering candle and a raging forest fire. The power of our God is like a raging forest fire. Nothing can stand in its way. That is how we are called to approach life – with a “sold out, burning fire” attitude.

Go:
1. What do you think an “on fire” life for God would look like?
2. How can you start to catch that fire and burn for God?
3. Who is one person that can help you live the life God calls you to?

Extra Reading: Deuteronomy 4:24; Psalms 29; 114; Colossians 3:23-24

Overtime:
Lord, help me live a life “on fire” for You. Forgive me for not being sold out to doing the right thing at times. I want to walk in victory and experience what it means to be part of a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Help me to live at a higher standard of excellence today. Amen.
