I did it again. I can’t believe I haven’t learned yet. I should know better, but it’s so hard not to do it. Everyone does it. I guess it’s considered just part of life, but I refuse to cave in and be like everyone else.

SPUD

Have each player number off. An option is to have more than one person per number.
After everyone has a number, have each player group together in a bunch.
One person starts with a ball in the center of the group
The person with the ball throws the ball up while yelling a number.
Everyone runs in all different directions away from the bunch except for the person(s) whose number is called.
The person(s) whose number is called catches the ball and yells "Spud!" As soon as this is yelled, everyone has to freeze.
The person with the ball is allowed to take 3 giant steps toward any player.
In the Middle of Discouragement
I walked into a room full of Division-I athletes, all on scholarship, who had been chosen to go to school at Mississippi State. I, on the other hand, had chosen to go to Mississippi State myself. I felt a lot like the Israelites did in Numbers 13. God had promised them the Promised Land, but they were going to have to conquer the land. Moses sent 12 leaders out, one from every tribe, to explore the land and come back with reports.
Having the Heart of a Champion

Jason Avant Lifted Up on Eagles' Wings
The Tour Team

As an amateur cyclist (very amateur), I just love the Tour de France. For 21 Stages in just 23 days, 180 of the most highly conditioned athletes ride 2,200 miles through some of the most beautiful countryside and grueling mountains in the world. It’s considered the “Super Bowl” of cycling, and it’s arguably one of the most physically, mentally and spiritually demanding events in all of sports. The riders average over 100 miles each day and burn over 130,000 calories! And while most of us would find it hard to drive a car thru the Alps, just imagine trying to do it on a bike.

Stand Strong in Your Faith
Key Verse: "These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world." - 1 Peter 1:7

Shalee has been asked many times about giving up. Why would athletes want to give up in their sport? Is this a common feeling? Explain.

Non-Musical Chairs

Materials:
*A chair for all but one person.
Make a circle with the chairs as if you were setting up a game of musical chairs, the person without a chair will start the game.
Have everyone seated, the person in the middle of the circle will state a clothing item or physical characteristic, such as, but not limited to, green eyes or blue jeans. (The person in the middle must match the criteria they call)
The persons with those characteristics, etc. will stand up and switch seats, since there won't be a chair for everyone since the person in the middle will need a seat, the last person standing is "it". The game goes on for any amount of time.
Sorts and Mingle

An icebreaker that gets the group to move towards various parts of the room and to find others with shared interests and preferences, based on various interesting categories.
The first part of the game is the "Sorts" game. You will throw out two contrasting choices and the group has to move either East or West of the room (e.g. "Do you prefer Target or Walmart?"). Then you throw out two more choices and have them move South and North. That way, they are all having to move somewhere and can't get "lost" in the crowd. Sorts that work well include: movie or book; salty or sweet; dress up or casual; inside or outside; be on the stage performing or in the audience watching, etc.
Risk And Reward - Daniel Study - Chapter 3

Risk and danger go hand-in-hand. Taking a risk usually implies a positive or negative reward depending upon the outcome. Coaches take risks all the time, although some coaches are more risky than others. Going for it on a fourth down, shooting a threepointer when down by only two and starting the freshman player instead of the senior are all risks. If the decision does not work, there are plenty of questions to answer, but if the decision does work, then you look like a genius.
Can you recall a time that you took a risk in coaching? How did it work out?

The Competitor’s Prayer

Hearing athletes and coaches pray before competition is always interesting. Many times pre-game prayers can be a “rah-rah” talk or desperate plea for a big win. As a true competitor, what is the correct way to pray before entering the heat of battle? The following prayer is fitting for a game, competition, workout, or even practice:

Heart of a Coach: Sue Ramsey, Ashland University
Immediately following her team’s overtime loss in the 2012 NCAA Division II national championship, Sue Ramsey prayed that God would use the disappointment for His glory. Tears of agony turned to shouts of joy one year later when her inspired Ashland Eagles won the school’s first-ever women’s basketball national title. Now in her 19th season with the program, Ramsey is focused on continuing their winning ways while teaching her team about an eternal purpose beyond the hardwood.
The Power of One Word

Get One Word for the new year…but be careful! It might change you.
Since 1999, we started the simple discipline of developing a One Word theme for the upcoming year. That is right—One Word. Not a phrase, not a statement, just a single word. To this point, it has been nothing short of life-changing.
No Off Season

Leader: All right! Everyone…everyone attention. Listen up! HEY YOU GUYS! (all are quiet) It is time for the annual FCA Talent Show. Apartment Visit

Two friends are hanging out watching TV when the phone rings and God tells them He wants to stop by for a visit. They freak and begin cleaning the whole place. They dust off their Bibles, turn on Christian radio, etc. to get ready for the visit. During this time two visitors come at different times, needing something. The friends turn them away saying they are waiting on an important guest. To end, God calls them, and they ask where He is and He says He has been by two times. Quote Matthew 25:35-46.
Characters:
Narrator (God’s voice), friend #1, friend #2, homeless person needing shelter, and person whose car broke down and needs to use the phone

To Whom be the Glory?

Do you remember the first time you scored in sports? Maybe it was a touchdown, a basket, a kill, a home run or a match point. For a lot of us, once it happened, we could hardly resist telling everyone about it.
As we get older, the stakes seem to get higher—the significance greater. Game-winning goals, last-second stops on the goal-line, blocked shots, fourth-quarter buzzer-beaters, walk-off home runs…We’re not playing t-ball anymore. The plays we make as we age can win or lose games and even championships. And if we’re involved in successfully making those plays, it’s often hard to contain our pride. We want to ask people, “Did you hear about what I did?” or, “Did you see my [fill in the blank] play?” It’s so easy to bask in the glory of our own self-righteousness.
No Heart Life

The girl is escorted around the room by the first guy. He then asks her if he can have her heart. She says, “no, I’m not ready yet.” He says’ “Oh come on, everybody is doing it.” The girl gives in and tears ¼ of her heart off and gives it to the guy. He takes it and walks off.
The girl is then escorted around the room by the second guy. He asks her if he can have her heart. Again, she says, “No, I don’t want to go that far.” He says, “If you love me, you will.” She gives in and tars off another ¼ of her heart and gives it to the guy. He walks off.
