    June 02, 2008

    bible_study

    Discussion:

    1. How important is your work ethic to your performance as a competitor?
    2. Who is to you an example of a strong work ethic?  How is it seen in his/her approach to sport?
    3. Let’s read a couple of simple Proverbs that speak of work ethic.  Proverbs 10:4, 12:24, 14:23, 22:29.
    4. Which one of these best illustrates your thoughts about hard work?
    5. Why would this be such an important factor for success in competition?
    6. How do we lead others to build a stronger work ethic for their sport?

Key Verse:  "Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." - Proverbs 1:7

    • How has fear gripped your life?  What areas in your life have you been fearful?

    • Erwin McManus acknowledges his own lack of courage, but where does he get his strength from each day?

    • “Courage is not the absence of fear; courage is the absence of self.”  What does that quote mean to you?

His Glory - "It's Not About Me!"

    Day 1
As an athlete, I need to understand God’s definition of glory and why He deserves it all. Competition is not about me. Life is not about me. I must die to myself and fully understand the power, majesty, and authority of God.

  • Honesty and insight - Daniel Study - Chapter 10

    September 15, 2008

    bible_study

Daniel chapter eight is not discussed as a lesson, but is referred to in Chapter nine. Chapter eight deals mainly with prophecies fulfilled in the Greek and Roman empires that are more fully explained in Chapters 9-11. So for the sake of not dealing with the same information twice we will move to Chapter 9.

Secure coaches are honest. They are honest about themselves and the team. Without being negative for negativity’s sake, honest assessment is critical. Total honesty about your past and current situation is the starting block for knowing how to proceed in the future. Sometimes assessment is humbling, but to glaze over reality will only hurt your effectiveness in the future.
