1 – Here we are at game number ___ of our season.
    • Let’s take a look back at our season so far.
    • We’ve competed at …(tough opponent)
    • We’ve endured a… (hard situation)
    • We’ve won a hard fought battle with ….

9/8/07 South Carolina vs. Georgia – 2 flags in opening quarter = 30 yds.
They seem to frequent the field in high school, college, professional sports.  They can come from many things – late hits, illegal blocks, and even words.  And when an official has seen enough he will usually throw the flag…
But how about beyond the field to our lives, is it really important what we say?

James 1:26 – If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is useless..
    James 3:5/12 – The Tongue

1 – On this day we begin this team’s third season.

    • Non-conference season
    • Conference season
    • Playoffs

2 – Suddenly at game time today, the rest of the season doesn’t count.

    • All the teams in the playoffs stand the same.
    • The last team in has the same opportunity as the first seed.
    • Everyone is at 0 and 0.
    • All ___ teams are focused on a __ game run to the championship.

    3 – I see a similar idea at Philippians 3:12b-14.

  • Pray Constantly

    Pray Constantly
    • Brian prays in the batter’s box. When do you find yourself praying as an athlete?
    • In his prayers he wants to glorify God through whatever happens. Do you pray during competition? If so, are you praying for you to be glorified by doing something great, or are you praying for God to receive the glory in what happens? There is a HUGE difference…what is the difference to you?
    • How has God called you to pray as an athlete?
    • Read 1 Corinthians 10:31.

  • Prayer - Chapel

1 – Many people misunderstand our purpose in conducting a chapel for our team.

    • Some think that if we pray it will result in a win.
    • Some think that if we go to chapel we are more likely to win.
    • Some think that if we pray we get God on our side.
    • So what’s the point?
    • Does God even care about who wins today?

2 – Joshua 5:13-15 sheds some light on such questions (read the text aloud).
