  • Risk And Reward - Daniel Study - Chapter 3

    September 15, 2008

    bible_study

Risk and danger go hand-in-hand. Taking a risk usually implies a positive or negative reward depending upon the outcome. Coaches take risks all the time, although some coaches are more risky than others. Going for it on a fourth down, shooting a threepointer when down by only two and starting the freshman player instead of the senior are all risks. If the decision does not work, there are plenty of questions to answer, but if the decision does work, then you look like a genius.

Can you recall a time that you took a risk in coaching? How did it work out?

    bible_study
    • What is your initial response to sin in your life? Does your heart become hard or do you drop to your knees in prayer?
    • Why do so many people run from God?
    • When is a time you ran from God?
    • Read James 4:7-9. List all the commands in the following verses? What will happen when we obey these commands?
    • Brian talked about the daily battle it is to live a life over sin. Where do you battle the most each day? What is your current struggle?
    • What does it mean to “submit to God”? Where do you need to draw near to God in your life?
    • Pray and draw near to Him right now. Get in a position where you are at that you can totally focus on just you and God.

    4. Let’s read about someone who made a very important sacrifice.  Let’s read Luke 23:32-46.
    5. What was it that Jesus sacrificed in this story?  Why would He do that?
    6. Why do you make the sacrifices that you do?
    7. For what and for whom will you make sacrifices today and in the coming days?

1 – How does a competitor demonstrate genuine love for his teammates?

    • In the book about Coach Joe Ehrmann, “Season of Life” it says that the coaches’ job is to love the players and the players’ job is to love each other.
    • Over the last …… months you have done that.
    • Let’s continue that in today’s contest.
    • Such love and sacrifice could be the key to a victory today.

2 – This is a great scripture on this theme.  I John 3:16-18 (read text aloud)

  • Selfish vs. Selfless - Chapel

    October 22, 2007

    bible_study

1 – Why is selflessness so important to successful teams?

    • Which would be more successful -
    • 5 on 5?
    • 1 on 5?

2 – Here’s another angle on this question from John 12:24-25 (read the text aloud).

  • Selfless - Chapel

    October 23, 2007

    bible_study

1 – Introduction – today we’ll talk about being selfless.   That’s the direct opposite of being selfish or having a “Me First” attitude.  Selfless people seek the best for others, before themselves.

    2 – Read the text – Romans 12:3-5

  • Senior Day - Chapel

    October 25, 2007

1 – This could be the last competition for some of our senior players.

    • Many of us have competed together for years.
    • On a day like this, what should characterize the attitudes of our most senior players?
    • I see a great model at Joshua 14 and verses 7-14.

    2 – Joshua 14:7-14 (read the text)

    • Caleb is now 85 years old, but he’s not ready to retire.
      • “I was faithful to what I was told.”
      • “I’m as strong today as I was 45 years ago.”
      • “Give me this mountain!  I’ve heard there are giants there.”

    3 – I wonder about our seniors.

  • Servant Leadership - Chapel

    October 21, 2007

    bible_study

1 – Today’s competition will require a tremendous amount of leadership for us to be victorious.  It will require a unique type of leadership.

2 – This kind of leadership is best described in Mark 10:42-45 (read the text aloud).
