Goal
A commitment to be drug and alcohol free is a firm pledge, not a conditional promise. A commitment does not change because of circumstances. A commitment is a stake in the ground.

OW2P Study - Commitment (Part 3)
Kati Poppert Study
Kati Poppert-Nebraska Cheerleader/Athlete
Pay It Forward-Give Back What God Gave You
Key Verse: "Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have." - 2 Corinthians 8:12
-
Kati is a great example of perseverance, and she has decided to give back what she has learned to others. Why is it so easy to just focus on our own problems rather than help others with their struggles?
-
Kati has displayed all the core values of integrity, teamwork, excellence, and serving. How has she shown excellence in her athletic career? What were the things holding her back?

Key Verse: …I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued to extend faithful love to you. –Jeremiah 31:3
Honesty and insight - Daniel Study - Chapter 10
Daniel chapter eight is not discussed as a lesson, but is referred to in Chapter nine. Chapter eight deals mainly with prophecies fulfilled in the Greek and Roman empires that are more fully explained in Chapters 9-11. So for the sake of not dealing with the same information twice we will move to Chapter 9.
Secure coaches are honest. They are honest about themselves and the team. Without being negative for negativity’s sake, honest assessment is critical. Total honesty about your past and current situation is the starting block for knowing how to proceed in the future. Sometimes assessment is humbling, but to glaze over reality will only hurt your effectiveness in the future.
Shining Like Stars - Daniel Study - Chapter 13
On almost all athletic fields, there is a player or coach who stands out and is considered a star. We give out Star of the Game awards for exceptional play. A player’s outstanding performance brings attention just as shining stars are recognized. In Daniel 12:2 it says that people who lead others to Christ is the equivalent of an exceptional performance in God’s kingdom.
Dedication ... To Follow Him - Get Focused: Part III
Philippians 3:15-17 – It’s game time and that means it’s time to give it all you’ve got no matter how difficult (or easy) the circumstances.
After your desire is focused on the right goal and you’ve put in all of the hard work and disciplined training, the time finally comes to follow through with the things you’ve learned. Dedication helps us live out what we know is true.

The Extra Mile-Feel Your Heart Beat
Key Verse: " But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded." - 2 Chronicles 15:7
-
Luke went through a major brain surgery in middle school and lost his vision, but it did not hold him back. How would you respond to such a circumstance in your life? Where would you draw your strength from?
-
Luke’s wrestling coach mentioned that no one want to practice against him because he always goes all out. Is that how you practice? What can you learn from Luke’s example?
Strong In Spirit - Daniel Study - Chapter 11
Competition is a good thing. Competition allows us to measure ourselves, to strive for better things and can keep us grounded or humble. What would happen if you played a game against a very competitive opponent but you did not compete in return? If you played the game but did not care about the outcome or how well you were doing, you would likely get whipped. Sadly, many of us are playing a spiritual game, and we are not competing. We are getting whipped spiritually day after day, on and off the field, but we just keep going. Hopefully, this chapter will change the way you compete.
OW2P Study - Temptation (Part 8)
Goal
To help students see the cause-effect relationship between alcohol use and sexual promiscuity; and to give students tools to say “no” to alcohol and premarital sex.
Key Scriptures
Genesis 9:20-25; Genesis 19:30-36; Romans 13:12-14
Warm Up
Recruit six members to compete in a “drunk bat” relay. Divide into two teams of three. Begin the race by having one team member place his/her forehead on an upright bat, spinning around 10 times and then running with the bat a designated distance to a teammate who does the same. The process repeats until all three members have gone. This game shows how easy it is to lose control.
Watch
The Sons of Noah
Genesis 9:18-29
1. From this story, what is your impression of Noah? Of his sons? How does this compare with the image presented in Genesis 6:8–10?
2. What do these contrasting images imply about children respecting parents? About righteousness? (Does “righteous” mean sinless?)
3. What does Noah's prophetic curse mean for his three sons? For the people of Israel descended through Shem? (Note: The Lord is the “God of Shem.”)
4. What's the point of including this story in Genesis? Why did Noah curse Canaan for his father's actions? How has your life been affected by the mistakes of your parents? By the successes of your parents?
Discipline ... To Trust Him - Get Focused: Part II
Philippians 3:12-14 – It all starts with right desires, but to press ahead we need discipline and trust in God.
Great athletes start with desire, but they don’t just wake up one day as champions. It takes a passionate and disciplined routine of mental and physical training. You can perform at your best only as you get focused on your goal and then give it everything you’ve got.

Desire ... to Know Him - Get Focused: Part I
Philippians 3:7-11 – Your desire is key! If you focus on the right desires, you’ll have the right goals to achieve true success.
Becoming a successful competitor takes motivation and drive, so there’s got to be a payoff if we’re going to invest the sweat-equity into training and performing as a champion.

Change Your Aim - Inside Out: Part II
If the world’s elite athletes can be pegged with one common trait, it would likely be that each of them is driven by a heightened sense of purpose. It is purpose that establishes a secure target at which they can aim and focus all of their energy: The golfer takes aim at the hole. The sprinter takes aim at the finish line. The free throw shooter takes aim at the basket. The archer takes aim at the bulls-eye. The pitcher takes aim at the strike zone. These competitors must employ a steady hand that comes from confidence in their abilities and a keen understanding of their identity. Any variation of that confidence— leading to arrogance on one extreme or insecurity on the other extreme—can quickly blur their vision and greatly hinder their aim.
Destination ... To Join Him - Get Focused: Part IV
Philippians 3:18-21 – Once we link up with Jesus, we’re on the team that’s going to win it all! We should live like champions no matter how tough it gets.
In sports and in life, our desire, discipline, and dedication lead us to a final destination. For the athlete, that destination might be a championship or just the satisfaction of knowing that you maximized your fullest potential. For Christ-followers it’s so much more!
Ready
WOULD YOU RATHER ... be the worst player on the best team or the best player on the worst team?
God’s Redemptive Plan - Daniel Study - Chapter 8
If you have not received Christ as your Savior and Lord, I ask you to please read the following pages. The most important thing you can have in life is a relationship with Jesus Christ. This can also be used as one of the lessons in your study of Daniel.
OW2P Study - Accountability (Part 4)
Goal
To show students that, much like having a workout partner who spots us while lifting weights and pushes us to do our best, we also need a partner who will help us to stick with our commitment to play drug free. Accountability will help them stick to their commitment.
Key Scriptures
Proverbs 17:17; Proverbs 27:6, 17; 2 Timothy 4:2
Warm Up
In a small group, discuss or list things that normally do not need accountability to complete (like eating, sleeping) and discuss or list things that do need accountability (homework, working out). Have the groups report their findings to the entire group and explain why there is a difference between the two lists.

Change Your Win - Inside Out: Part IV
From the little leagues to the professional ranks, success in sports is almost exclusively defined by wins and losses. Perhaps legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi summed it up best when he said, “Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.” In some respects, you could make a strong case for that belief. Winning often opens the doors to life-changing opportunity. On the other hand, the all-or-nothing attitude that is prevalent in today’s sports community has the potential to bring undeserved disappointment to those on the outside looking in.
Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.–Romans 12:21

Change Your Do - Inside Out: Part III
Every sport has them—those pesky but necessary “do’s and don’ts” otherwise known as rules of the game and rules of the team. No matter how much you sacrifice and how focused you are in aiming at the goal, your competitive dreams are put at risk the moment you do something that contradicts the rules. There are no shortcuts to success as an athlete or in life. Sooner or later, it will catch up with you.
One Mission - Get It
Get It!
The focus of this day is to understand that in order to GET a Mission in life, you must understand what truth is and where you can find it.

Share these things with a partner and discuss how you know the statements are true.
Drugs for Pain Study

-
Miles was enjoying his new relationship with God and going to church when Katrina hit New Orleans. How do you think you would respond to that type of tragedy in your life?
-
Miles was angry with God after what had happened. When have you been angry at God? What was the reason for your anger?
Priorities and Gifts
- LT talk about priorities. List your top 5 priorities right now. Read them out loud. After hearing them are there any that seem out of place?
- He shared that we all have gifts. What are some of the gifts God has given you?
- How are you using those gifts? Are any of those gifts being used for your glory rather than God’s?
- Read Romans 12:5-7. Do you know what your spiritual gifts are? Take a spiritual gifts test.
Run to God
- What is your initial response to sin in your life? Does your heart become hard or do you drop to your knees in prayer?
- Why do so many people run from God?
- When is a time you ran from God?
- Read James 4:7-9. List all the commands in the following verses? What will happen when we obey these commands?
- Brian talked about the daily battle it is to live a life over sin. Where do you battle the most each day? What is your current struggle?
- What does it mean to “submit to God”? Where do you need to draw near to God in your life?
- Pray and draw near to Him right now. Get in a position where you are at that you can totally focus on just you and God.
